Treaty of Hudabiya - History of Islam

Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was successful in creating a theocracy of Medina; a state ruled by God and had reduced the Jews to a subservient minority.

Muhammad (P.B.U.H) then had a vision of him completing the holy pilgrimage at Mecca and so with an army charged towards Mecca with no intention to fight as they crossed paths with a Meccan army who were happy to sign a treaty between them.

There were conditions on which Muhammad (P.B.U.H) gained access to Mecca. Muslims could not enter Medina in 628CE but could do for three days in 629. All the Meccans taking refuge in Medina were to be handed back to the Meccans but all the Muslims taking refuge in Mecca were not to be handed back to Muhammad (P.B.U.H). There would be a ten year truce in which Meccans and Muslims could travel freely through Arabia.

Both parties were to remain neutral when contacted by any third party and any tribe wishing to join either the Meccans or Muhammad (P.B.U.H) were free to do so.
